Former BAND MEMBERS
TUESDAY NIGHT BAND
FRANK RIDGEWAY
First BAND LEADER,
LEAD TRUMPET
1931-2012 Drawing on his Stadacona Band experience, Frank Ridgeway directed the Tuesday Night Band for 25 years, and his magical trumpet and flugel horn solos were a trademark feature for the band.
Bruce Froom
Trumpet
Bruce was one of the original trumpets in the Tuesday Night Show Band, playing beautiful solos from a beer keg stool. He continued to play with the band and keep good records of its history.
Raef Wilson
trumpet
PO2 Raef Wilson has recently retired after a 42-year military career with the Stadacona Band and a long history playing in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. He still finds time to play in numerous bands in Halifax area. His high trumpet notes and jovial personality make rehearsals and concerts with the Tuesday Night Band all fun events of high caliber. He even enjoys singing a song or two for students when on tour with the Stad Band. See "Stadacona Band - Raef Wilson - Man of a Thousand Faces" on YouTube.
Bryan Crocker
Alto sax, baritone sax, vocals, co-director
Bryan does it all! In addition to playing alto sax, Bryan often provided cutoffs for the band, vocals from time to time, and could fill in on baritone sax. This was all on top of his day job with Capital Health, playing in Sax4Hire, singing with Camerata Singers, and choral directing the Dal Medical Choir, the Gay Men's Chorus, and Nova Voce.
Tom Rusinak
tenor, alto
Tom is equally at home on tenor or alto and is a talented improviser. He worked many years an a band teacher with the Halifax County School Board, plays in several bands locally, and subs from time to time with the band.
Doug Myra
Trombone
1936-2021 Over his lifetime, Doug Myra had the honour of performing in 38 bands, including the Tuesday night Band, Halifax Symphony Orchestra, Joe Skowronski Orchestra, John Manders Dixie and German bands. Doug was a cowboy at heart and a true character. Until his last days he kept a cap gun beside his chair and occasionally fired it while watching western movies. Doug was often the band's voice of sarcasm.
Ron roberts
Announcer
For many years, the Band enjoyed having the smooth voice and vast knowledge of big band music of broadcaster and radio personality Ron Roberts setting the stage for each of our pieces during concerts. We were saddened when he passed away in 2015.
Bob Margeson
Trumpet
The Tuesday Night Show Band grew out of Bob Margeson's inviting a few buddies to play some big band music. It has grown from sitting down on beer kegs to chairs on the main stage of the Atlantic Jazz Festival!
Paul St-Amand
trumpet
Paul St-Amand is a trumpeter, vocalist, and composer based in Halifax, and the Tuesday Night Band was pleased to have his sweet classical trumpet sound soloing with us for several years. He is a founding member of the Bedford Brass Quintet and a sought after soloist for many recording artists.
Tony VanGogh
trumpet
Originally from Holland where he played trumpet in local military bands, Tony brings to the Tuesday Night Band his military band experience in both playing trumpet in and conducting the Royal Canadian Navy's Stadacona Band. Retired Stad Band members love having a place to play and keep up their skills and The Tuesday Night Band offers that outlet. Tony also plays in the Sackville Concert Band, and is leader of the band Timeless that shares familiar classic jazz band music with Seniors in local nursing homes. He is an avid gardener, creating a beautiful oasis in his backyard.
Gordon Oakey
baritone sax
Gordon Oakie, a Marine Geoscience Technologist by day, is best known in the band as the host of the awesome annual PIGJAM where bands from all over come together to perform for family and friends while a pig is roasted on a spit and enjoyed by all. He of course also plays a mean baritone sax.
Guy LeBlanc
Piano
Guy played keyboards with the Tuesday Night Band for many years. He was a former director of the Stadacona Band. While with the Tuesday Night Band, Guy did a number of wonderful arrangements that the band still plays.
