Vocals & RhythM
TUESDAY NIGHT BAND
Vocals
Pam Barr
Pam Barr has been the featured vocalist with the Tuesday Night Band for thirty years, and her smooth jazz tones and pizzazz on stage delights jazz lovers wherever we play.
Drums
Gerry Johnston
Gerry plays drums in the Band. Gerry is a founding member of the Tuesday Night Big Band and has been the drummer with the Band ever since. He also plays in groups ranging from concert bands to jazz ensembles. In the late 80s and the 90’s, he was the drummer for a popular Halifax-based blues band (the Floorboards) that received an East Coast Music Award in 1991. Jazz remains his favorite music and he shares this passion with his wife Judy who plays bass in the Tuesday Night Big Band.
Keyboard
Alexander Engau
Alexander joined TNB in Feb 2020 and has enjoyed every moment since. He grew up playing classical and jazz piano in big bands and musicals as an instrumental soloist, singer, and choir accompanist. Between age 12 and 18, he was pipe organist in his small home town in Germany and then served his military service with one of Germany's National Army Bands as its woodwind section leader on alto sax. Later, during his doctoral studies in mathematical and statistical sciences in USA and Canada, he continued to play woodwinds and keys in numerous university big bands, R'n'B and Motown cover bands. He now works in the Faculty of Management at Dalhousie, but is equally excited to again revive his inner soul each Tuesday Night.
Guitar, Co-Director, Arranger
Bob Bauer
Bob Bauer plays guitar with the band and although not one of the original members, he has been with the group for many years. Bob has arranged several pieces for the group. In his other life, he was a CBC Radio music producer for 30 years before retiring. For more info, check out his website: http://bauermusic.wixsite.com/website
Bass
Judy Johnston
Judy began playing bass in a Toronto-based rock group but quickly moved to more jazz and swing-oriented groups. In addition to TNB, she has played bass in musical theatre groups, jazz trios/quartets and concerts bands, but her favorite music remains jazz and swing. Along with her husband, Gerry, she is a founding member of the Tuesday Night Big Band and continues to play regularly with that group.
co-director, Vocals
Krisanne Crowel
Newly retired from the Stadacona Band, Krisanne Crowell is a fabulous all-round musician, highly skilled on vocals, saxophone, and keys. She plays in many groups around Halifax, including The TriTones and Solarocity. The Band is very pleased to have her direct us at the Halifax Jazz Festival and Chester Summer Concert Series, and to harmonize with Pam on vocals.
